Boy, 13, Hospitalized After Weekend Jetski Crash In Brick: Police

Two jetskis collided head-on on the Metedeconk River; the driver of the second was 15 and suffered minor injuries, state police said.

BRICK, NJ — A 13-year-old boy remained hospitalized Monday following a head-on jetski crash in the Metedeconk River over the weekend, New Jersey State Police said Monday.

The boy, a Mahwah resident, was seriously injured in the crash that happened Saturday afternoon, Trooper Alejandro Goez said. He was listed in serious condition at the most recent update Goez had.

He was driving a Yamaha Waverunner in the river near South Drive when he was hit head-on by a Yamaha Waverunner driven by a 15-year-old boy from Franklin Lakes, Goez said. The Franklin Lakes teen had a juvenile male passenger as well, Goez said.

All three were thrown from the crafts as a result of the crash, he said. The 13-year-old was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, he said. The 15-year-old suffered minor injuries and the 15-year-old's passenger was uninjured, Goez said. He did not release the names because they are minors, and he did not have an age or hometown for the uninjured boy.

Under New Jersey law, the minimum age to operate a personal watercraft is 16, and you must pass a boating safety course to do so.
