BREAKING: Collapse Kills Worker At Ocean County Shopping Center Demolition
Police responded to the plaza on a report of a building collapse and a construction worker trapped.

A construction worker died after a building collapse during the demolition of the Beachwood Shopping Center on Thursday.
Al Della Fave, a spokesman with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, said the incident happened while the Route 9 shopping center was undergoing a long-awaited demolition.
“Somehow there was a collapse and that worker was killed,” he said.

At around 2:15 p.m., Berkeley police responded to the plaza on a report of a building collapse and a construction worker trapped, he said.
Rescue crews located the worker, searching through the debris of a collapsed roof, Della Fave said.

Shortly after 4 p.m., several law enforcement officers and investigators were at the scene. The Bayville Fire Department, Bayville First Aid and paramedics also responded to the scene, he said.
The roof apparently collapsed on the southern end of the building.
