Brick Appoints New Municipal Court Judge

Brick, NJ -- Brick Township has a new municipal court judge, after the Township Council approved the appointment of Joseph D. Grisanti at Tuesday's council meeting.

Grisanti, a township resident and treasurer of the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority, has a record and background that is "above reproach," Brick Township Mayor John Ducey said.

Grisanti is a former FBI agent and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army reserves as a first lieutenant in 2002, according to his biography on the MUA website.

Grisanti, who maintains a private law practice in Jackson Township, serves on the New Jersey District 3 Ethics Committee, which investigates grievances and ethics charges brought against attorneys, and also serves on the New Jersey Supreme Court's Character Committee, which does background checks on anyone who seeks to be an attorney in the state, Ducey said. Both committees are appointed by the state Supreme Court, Ducey said.

He has been serving as municipal prosecutor in Barnegat Township but will resign that position when he takes over for current Municipal Court Judge Robert Lepore, whose current three-year term ends Aug. 21.

Grisanti, who grew up in Staten Island and moved to New Jersey in 1987, lived in Jackson and served on the Township Committee there, including serving as the township's mayor in 2001, according to his MUA biography. He also served on the Jackson Township Board of Education and the Jackson MUA, according to the biography.

Grisanti has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and received his law degree from St. John's University in 1984.
