Brick Boy, 7, Rescues Mom From Diabetic Coma: Report

The boy called 9-1-1 when his mother was struggling Sunday morning, according to the report.

BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township boy is being hailed after the youngster saved his mother from a diabetic coma, according to a report.

The Asbury Park Press reported that 7-year-old Aden Earl realized his mother was having a problem Sunday morning and was persistent in trying to call 9-1-1, then let emergency personnel in to help his mom.

Christine Earl, 29, has Type I diabetes — a disease that is caused by genetics and unknown factors — where her body does not produce insulin, according to the American Diabetes Association. Insulin is the hormone the body uses to get glucose from the food a person eats into the cells, which then use it for energy, the association says.

Earl wears an insulin pump to regulate her insulin levels, but overnight Saturday her blood sugar dropped to dangerously low levels, according to the report. It had happened before, when Aden was younger, and he realized his mom needed help, the report said. He called 9-1-1, then got a neighbor to do so as well, the report said.

He was honored by the Lakewood BlueClaws this week.
