Brick Cancels Activities, Municipal Court Ahead Of Impending Storm

Breaking: Residents reminded to get vehicles off the streets for snow plowing.

BRICK, NJ — With forecasts calling for 4 to 6 inches of heavy, wet snow and a winter storm warning in effect for the area, Brick Township officials announced a number of cancellations and closures for Thursday.

All garbage and recycling collections for Thursday have been postponed to Friday; Friday's collections will be done on Saturday. Any other scheduled collections for bulk items or metal will be rescheduled for next week.

The township's recycling center at Ridge Road is closed on Thursday.

The township's Civic Plaza Activity Center is closed on Thursday. All activities scheduled for that day, including early childhood programs and pickleball, are canceled.

All Brick Recreation basketball games and practices for Thursday are canceled.

All activities at the township's Senior Outreach Services Center scheduled for Thursday are canceled.

The Municipal Court session scheduled for Thursday is canceled. Anyone scheduled to appear will receive a notice of their new court date, officials said.

Public works department employees began spreading a salt mixture on township streets at noon Wednesday, officials said. The storm is expected to bring rain early Thursday morning, changing to sleet and then snow by about 4 a.m. Snowfall is expected to be heavy at times; National Weather Service forecasters say it could be as much as 2 inches per hour. Brick officials warned residents to be prepared for possible power outages as a result of tree limbs being brought down by the snow.

Plowing crews will be ready at 3 a.m., officials said, with crews being dispatched when there is about 4 inches of snow on the streets.

Residents are reminded to remove all vehicles and objects from the streets to assist with snow removal, officials said.
