Brick Council Bans Recreational Marijuana Sales
The ban comes as state lawmakers announced a deal to legalize adult use of recreational marijuana in New Jersey.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Council voted to ban the retail sale of recreational marijuana in the township Tuesday night.
But those who gathered to speak their opinions on the ordinance — both for and against — had to wait a very long time for that opportunity, treated first to a display of the bickering that has been a continuous occurrence at council meetings for the last several months.
It was 9:30 p.m. before the hearing on the ordinance began, and it was nearly midnight before a vote took place, according to observers at the meeting who stayed until the bitter end.

The council voted unanimously to approve the ordinance, Ocean County Scanner News reported. Those who opposed the ordinance were disappointed in the outcome.
But residents who have been fighting a now-scrapped proposal for a medical marijuana dispensary on Adamston Road were pleased with the outcome. A post on the Brick Residents Say No to Rezoning Facebook page read: "I am proud to say All Recreational Marijuana Sales, Cultivation, Manufacturing, and Testing have been BANNED in the Township of Brick. Thank you All for coming out and supporting your town. Also I would like to thank the City Council for doing what’s right and keeping this town safe."
