Brick Crash Leaves Police, Rescuers With Unusual Rescue Challenge

The investigation into the crash that left the car vertical is ongoing; the driver suffered what were believed to be minor injuries.

BRICK, NJ — A delivery driver was injured Saturday night when his car went off the road and drove up a guidewire, leaving police and firefighters with an unusual rescue situation, authorities said.

The Laurelton Fire Company shared photos Saturday night of the accident on Manor Drive that required the efforts of the Brick Township Technical Rescue team to remove the car from its position against the pole.

The accident happened in the area of Western Drive, Brick Police Sgt. James Kelly said Sunday in an email. The driver, who was not identified, was able to get out of the car but fell to the ground and was taken to Ocean Medical Center in Brick for treatment of what were believed to be minor injuries, Kelly said. The accident remains under investigation.

The Brick Township Technical Rescue team is a joint effort among the four township fire companies and Brick Police EMS, the Laurelton Fire Company Facebook post noted. Pioneer Hose Company 1 and Breton Woods Fire Company 1 were the initial responders. The Laurelton Fire Company's rescue truck helped the team stabilize the car with struts so they could secure it with straps and safely lower the car.

The team worked with heavy rescue towing companies and the car was lowered to the ground without any issues, the fire company post said.
