Brick Democrats Choose Crate To Fill Council Candidates' Slate

The 20-year resident was chosen to replace Susan Lydecker on the ballot for the November election.

A 20-year resident of Brick Township has been chosen to replace Susan Lydecker on the Democratic slate of Brick council candidates, the township’s Democratic Municipal Committee announced Saturday.

Lisa Crate, who has been a teacher in the Jackson School District for 23 years, was unanimously approved by the committee, according to a news release.

Crate is a member of the board of Tooney’s Last Resort Animal Rescue, and a parishioner at the Church of the Epiphany. Last year, she was named Teacher of the Year at the Christa McAuliffe Middle School.

Lydecker, a current Brick Township Council member, withdrew from the ticket earlier in the month. Crate will be running with incumbent Councilman Jim Fozman, Councilwoman Andrea Zapcic, and newcomer Art Halloran on the Ducey Team for Brick, according to the release.

“Since John Ducey was elected Mayor in 2013, a lot of things have been going right in Brick,” Crate said in the release. “The successful new Farmers Market is a source of pride for all of us. Events like Bricktoberfest and the Friday night Drive-In Movies are building our sense of community. New businesses like the Meridian Health and Fitness Center and PJ Sweeney’s Irish Pub are choosing Brick.”

Crate and her husband, William, live in the Midstreams section of Brick with their children William, 10, and Colleen, 8, who attend Midstreams Elementary School.

“The success we have in Brick is a team effort,” Ducey said. “Taxes are stable, businesses are moving to Brick, and we’re beginning to get back on the right track. Lisa is a success in her professional career as a teacher, and will be a success when she is elected to Council. I’m glad to have her on the team.”
