Brick Fire Bureau Chief Batzel Receives State Honor
He is the second Brick fire official to receive the honor in recent years.
ATLANTIC CITY -- Kevin C. Batzel, chief of the Brick Township Bureau of Fire Safety and the town's fire inspector, has been named the 2016 Fire Protection Inspector of the Year by the New Jersey Fire Prevention & Protection Association.
"He was chosen for his outstanding contributions in the areas of code enforcement and fire protection inspection," according to a letter from the state Department of Community Affairs.
Batzel was honored at the Building Safety Conference of N.J. last week in Atlantic City.
"We feel this is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a code official," the letter said.
Batzel was joined at the ceremony by his family, Brick Township Mayor John G. Ducey, Construction Official Dan Newman and several of Batzel's colleagues, including fellow fire inspector Rick Orlando, who recently received Fire Prevention Inspector of the Year.
