Brick Holding Information Session For Flood Victims

The session, at Greenbriar 1, aims to help those affected by last week's flash flooding avoid being victimized by fraudsters.

BRICK, NJ — In an effort to help residents affected by flooding from last week's torrential downpours, Brick Township police and officials from the office of Gov. Phil Murphy are holding a meeting on Wednesday to help Brick residents navigate the disaster.

The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Greenbriar I clubhouse at 1 Darley Circle, and is open to all Brick residents affected by last Monday's storm.

More than 100 homes were damaged by the flooding that happened as a result of nearly 8 inches of rain falling in 2-1/2 hours on Aug. 13, nearly twice as much as falls on average in Brick in August, Mayor John G. Ducey has said.

"Over the past several years Brick Township Police have gained experience in responding to the initial threat of the storm and the aftermath and cleanup which followed," the police department said in announcing the meeting. "Unfortunately, this included criminal behavior from individuals and contractors looking to prey upon the victims who had already lost so much."

Wednesday's meeting aims to help give those affected information and connect them with help to avoid a repeat of what has happened to victims of Superstorm Sandy, some of whom still are not back in their homes.
