Brick Man Charged With Assault By Auto, DUI In Fiery Mandalay Road Crash

Witnesses told the Brick Patch the driver was giving three members of the Brick football team a ride in his Porsche at the time of the crash

Brick Township police have charged a Brick man with driving under the influence and three counts of assault by auto in connection with Mandalay Road crash last Thursday night.

John Dealto Jr., 37, of Monterey Drive, was behind the wheel of a car that left Mandalay Road and crashed in the woods near Pinecrest Drive about 7:20 p.m., Sgt. Henry Drew of the Brick Township Police Department said. The car, which witnesses told the Brick Patch was a Porsche, burst into flames after the crash.

Drew said Dealto and his three passengers were out of the car, which had gone 100 feet into the woods, by the time police arrived at the scene, and no one was injured.

Witnesses told the Brick Patch that the driver was giving three members of the Brick Township High School football team a ride in his Porsche when the crash happened, and said the car was speeding down Mandalay Road. The players had been attending a team pasta party in preparation for the Dragons’ game at Colts Neck on Saturday, which Brick won 45-7, according to the Shore Sports Network.

Drew said Brick police would not be releasing any information on the passengers because they are minors.

Dealto was charged with three counts of assault with an auto while driving under the influence, driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving and driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle, Drew said. Dealto was released on his charges with a pending court date.

In addition to police personnel, the Brick Police Emergency Medical Service, and the Breton Woods and Pioneer Hose Fire Companies also responded, Drew said.
