TRENTON, NJ — A Brick Township man is accused of enticing several minor girls, including two who were 12 years old, to send him sexually explicit videos of themselves via social media, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Friday.

Daniel Nilla, 35, has been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of receipt of child pornography, Sellinger said. Nilla was arrested Thursday and made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Douglas E. Arpert in Trenton federal court and was detained.

The complaint filed by federal authorities alleges that Nilla was talking to minor girls — all of whom lived outside New Jersey — via social media and was receiving sexually explicit videos from them via Snapchat between Dec. 12, 2021 and April 28, 2023.

The videos were discovered when authorities in Virginia were investigating a sexual assault and found that a 14-year-old girl had been communicating with Nilla, and had his phone numbers stored in her phone, according to the complaint. She had sent him sexually explicit videos of herself, at his request, the complaint said.

The investigation turned up sexually explicit videos from four other girls — two 12-year-olds, a 17-year-old and another girl whose age was not specified other than that she was a minor — on Nilla's phones, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, he told the 17-year-old he could put her videos on TV, at one point telling her, "Need more full body for the TV $" and telling her to "Now go make me more."

The minor whose age was not specified had sent Nilla several sexually explicit videos of herself via Snapchat, and he had sent one to her of what appeared to be him masturbating, the complaint said.

Investigators traced the phone numbers to Nilla and the IP address he was using to the internet service registered to a family member, the complaint said.

The charges of sexual exploitation of a minor each carry a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison up to a maximum of 30 years, and a $250,000 fine. The charge of receipt of child exploitation material carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 5 years in prison, with a maximum of 20 years, and a $250,000 fine.
