Brick Man Faces Charges After Fleeing Traffic Stop: Police
Police said the man and his passenger ran after being pulled over; the chase prompted a shelter in place at a nearby school.

UNION BEACH, NJ — A Brick Township man is facing charges in Monmouth County after he and another man tried to run from police following a traffic stop, sparking a shelter in place at a nearby school, police said.
Chad Zimmer, 44, of Brick, was arrested along with Demond Hill, 31 of Cliffwood, were arrested Tuesday after being chased in Union Beach, police said.
Union Beach police said Detective Joseph Friscia stopped a car for several motor vehicle violations about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The car, driven by Zimmer, pulled into the parking lot of Union Avenue Auto Sales, at the corner of Route 36 and Union Avenue, and as it came to a stop, Zimmer and Hill jumped out and ran off, police said.

Zimmer ran toward Union Avenue, police said, and Hill ran across the road behind the body shop, police said. Friscia gave chase and apprehended one of the men in the parking lot of the body shop, but the second disappeared, police said.
A shelter-in-place order was issued for Hazlet Middle School, just south of the body shop, and police canines were brought in to search for the second man, police said. He was arrested Tuesday evening at a home in Union Beach, police said.

Zimmer was charged with hindering apprehension, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful taking of means of conveyance, police said. He was also found to have several warrants, they said. He was taken to the Monmouth County jail.
Hill was charged with possession of CDS (heroin); possession of CDS (crack/cocaine); two counts of possession of CDS with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park, two counts of possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school property, hindering apprehension, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also taken to the Monmouth County jail.
