Brick Man Hit On Herbertsville Road, Seriously Injured, Police Say
The man was crossing Herbertsville Road shortly before 1 a.m. when he was hit, officials said.

A Brick Township man suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a truck early Sunday morning while crossing Herbertsville Road, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.
John M. Leddy, 29, of Brick, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with serious internal injuries and multiple broken bones after the incident, which happened at about 12:50 a.m. Sunday, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Leddy was hit while crossing Herbertsville Road near Hulse Avenue, Della Fave said. The preliminary investigation by the Brick Police Department, Toms River Police Department, the prosecutor’s office and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI found that a 2015 GMC Sierra, operated by Jeffrey Bevacqua, 52, of Brick was westbound on Herbertsville Road and Leddy was trying to cross the road, travelling north to south, when he was struck in the westbound lane just before the double center line, Della Fave said.

Bevacqua showed no visual signs of impairment, according officers on scene. A search of his cell phone on scene revealed that it was not in use during the time of the crash. His vehicle will be secured at OCSD CSI pending a search and download of the Event Data Recorder, Della Fave said.
The investigation is ongoing, he said.
