Brick Man Hit, Injured Crossing Brick Blvd In Dark: Police

The man was hit near Yokohama restaurant but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police said.

BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township man was injured Tuesday night when he stepped into the path of a car on Brick Boulevard, police said.

Samuel Sanchez, 32, of Brick, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment following the accident, which was reported at 6:04 p.m., Brick Township Patrolman Keith Donnelly said.

Sanchez, who was wearing dark clothing, was hit in the area of Yokohama, the Japanese restaurant north of North Lakeshore Drive, Donnelly said.

Elsa G. Romero, 52, of Toms River, was driving a burgundy 2005 Chevrolet Impala south on Brick Boulevard and as she approached Yokohama, Sanchez tried to cross Brick Boulevard from east to west and stepped into Romero's path, Donnelly said. Sanchez was hit by the right front fender and mirror and knocked to the ground, where he injured his head and hands, he said.

Romero was not injured, he said. Brick Township Police EMS transported Sanchez to the hospital.

Traffic on Brick Boulevard was detoured around the scene for approximately an hour and a half during the investigation.

Donnelly and Patrolman Jay Lampiasi are investigating. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to the crash is asked to contact Donnelly at 732-262-1104.
