Ocean County Man Killed, Wife Injured In Vermont Crash: Report

WEATHERFIELD, VT — A Brick Township man was killed and his wife was injured in a highway crash Sunday morning in Vermont, according to a report.

NJ.com reported that Alexander Romanow, 79, died in the crash and his wife, Jane, 75, suffered a broken femur, quoting Vermont State Police.

The Romanows were northbound on Interstate 91 in Weathersfield about 9:30 a.m. when the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe veered into the median, hit several trees and caught fire, police told NJ.com.

Other motorists stopped to help but were unable to pull Romanow, whom police believe fell asleep at the wheel, from the wreckage because of the fire, the report said. Jane Romanow was able to escape despite the broken leg, the report said.
