Brick Man Who Shot Himself After Shooting At Cop Dies: Prosecutor

Corey Johnson, accused of breaking into his ex-wife's home, has died from self-inflicted gunshot injuries, officials said.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick man accused of breaking into his ex-wife's home and shooting at a cop before turning the gun on himself has died from his injuries, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

Corey Johnson, 28, died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound on Aug. 16 at about 10:15 p.m., according to Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

Earlier this week, Billhimer said that Johnson had broken into his ex-wife's condominium on Judy Court on Monday morning.

The ex-wife, not named by officials, had seen him on her Ring doorbell camera while at work and called police, Billhimer said.

She was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when she arrived at the parking lot of her residence, Billhimer said.

At that time, Johnson had left the home, and pulled his car in front of hers, blocking her in, Billhimer said.

A Brick police officer arrived on the scene and when he left his car Johnson left his car as well, firing a shot in the officer's direction, Billhimer said.

The bullet struck the cop car's windshield, Billhimer said. It was initially reported that the cop was uninjured, but Billhimer later stated that he suffered minor injuries to his arm from glass shards and was briefly taken to the hospital for treatment.

Immediately after firing the shot, Johnson turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head, Billhimer said.

Police rendered aid and Johnson was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Billhimer said.
