Brick Mayor Gives Updates On Icarus, Royal Farms, Corrado's
Brick Township Mayor John Ducey gave updates on a number of topics during a Facebook live on Monday.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township Mayor John G. Ducey provided updates on a number of topics during his Facebook Live, including the status of Royal Farms, Corrado's and Icarus Brewing.
Ducey, speaking Monday morning, also addressed the lawsuit the township has filed against Congregation Kehilos Yisroel to force it to shut down the Orthodox Jewish boys school it is operating at the former Temple Beth Or site on Van Zile Road without permits.
Ducey said township officials have been contacting the owners of the property but getting no response. The property was a synagogue, and a school is a permitted use in the zone, town officials have said. But the owners are required to file a site plan and a change-of-use plan with the township. There also are permits that must be obtained covering a variety of safety issues.

"It finally came to a point where the school closed for a couple of weeks, but then it reopened," Ducey said.
The township has issued violations that include fines of $2,000 per day and issued a cease-and-desist order for school to stop operating, but those actions have been ignored, he said.

That's why the township took the step of filing the lawsuit to force the school to shut down until all of the proper paperwork has been completed, he said.
"There's safety issues," Ducey said, from fire suppression to what measures are in place for bus safety.
The lawsuit, which Ducey said the township hopes will be heard fairly quickly, is because an order to close the business has to come from the courts.
"We can't just put a lock on the door. Only a judge can order that," Ducey said. "The property is being treated the same as any other in town. Everybody has to follow the same laws."
Ducey also answered questions on businesses in town:
Icarus Brewing: The Lakewood-based microbrewery has purchased the former Shore Restaurant Supply building on Route 88 with plans to convert it into a microbrewery. The project is still in its early stages, Ducey said. "I don't know how long it will take to get through the process," he said, but called it exciting.
"They're going to be brewing right there," hesaid. "It's going to add some pizzazz to that section of Route 88."
Royal Farms: The convenience store chain that draws raves for its fried chicken is anticipated to open soon. Ducey said it was expected to open soon and is hiring now.
Aldi: The Aldi on Route 88 will have a new home, Ducey confirmed. The grocery store chain is slated to move to the former Foodtown site, filling one of the retail vacancies at the site.
Corrado's: The market that is supposed to fill the spot of the former Pathmark at Laurel Square Shopping Center. The grocery store has been waiting on the delivery of a lot of goods for the store, including cash registers, shelves and refrigeration, Ducey said. He was planning to check with store representatives to get an update.
