It was a pitchers duel as the Mustangs were only able to muster up two hits off of Jared Lubanski, who went the distance as well, but picked up the loss. Lubanski gave up one earned run on two hits, while striking out seven.

The Mustangs were able to score two runs off of Lubanski in the top of the 3rd inning without having a hit. Senior Teddy Gonzalez lead off the inning by reaching on an error by the third baseman, followed by Senior Justin Bates, who was hit by a pitch. Senior Tim Santiago walked to load the bases and with one out Senior Dylan Evans walked to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. The mustangs scored their second run on a sac fly by Senior Matt Cuppari.

Two runs was all the support that Merritt needed as he dominated from start to finish, giving up just five hits while striking out four. The only trouble he ran into was in the bottom of the 7th inning when Southern Regional had runners on first and second with one out, but Noah Brown lined into a double play to end the game.

Cuppari finished the game 1 for 2 with an RBI and Senior Andrew LaRosa was the only other Mustang to have a hit.

The Mustangs will travel to Toms River North on Thursday, as they will look to improve their record to an impressive 9-2. The game will start at 3:45 P.M.
