Brick Memorial Defeats Toms River South 7-6
The Mustangs were able to hold off the Indians in a close ball game, winning by a final score of 7-6.

The game was tight the whole way until the last out was made, but the Mustangs were able to come out with a huge win against Toms River South, with a final score of 7-6.
Starting on the mound for Toms River was Senior Trevor Wagner, who sat down the Mustangs in the top of the 1st inning by striking out the side. In the second inning he ran into some trouble after surrendering two hits and then walking the next batter to load the bases with no outs.
Memorial was only able to score one run in the inning on a RBI single by Senior Tim Santiago. Toms River was able to tie it in the bottom of the 2nd on a sac fly by Junior Matt Shiffer.
Memorial came right back with two runs in the top of the 3rd inning when Senior James Donlon singled and then Senior Matt Cuppari scored on a wild pitch.
South took the lead in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-3 game. Senior TJ Scuderi had a two RBI single in the inning.
Both teams were trading runs as Memorial took the lead again in the top of the 4th inning, but South tied it up in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-5.
In the top of the 6th inning the Mustangs took the lead on a couple of mistakes by the Indians. Wagner threw the ball away trying to pick off the runner on third base and then another wild pitch was able to score another run.
South got one back in the bottom of the inning on a single by Junior Tom Campo. With one out and a runner on second base, Shiffer singled to right field and Donlon came up throwing and was able to gun down the runner at the plate and save the lead at 7-6.
Senior Ray Lutick came in and closed the game out in the 7th inning after Senior Alec Merritt went six solid innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits while only walking two. Merritt picked up the win.
Donlon had a terrific game going 3-4 with two RBI’s and a double and saving the game on the throw to the plate. Senior Dylan Evans had an RBI double. Lutick picked up the save.
Memorial improves to 6-1 and will be home to play Jackson Memorial on Friday at 3:45 P.M.
