Brick Memorial Falls To Jackson Liberty In Extra Innings 9-5

The Mustangs were eliminated from the Shore Conference Tournament.

The Brick Memorial Mustangs were knocked out of the Shore Conference Tournament today, losing to Jackson Liberty in extra innings 9-5.

The Mustangs started off strong, as they took the lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Senior Dylan Evans led off with a walk and Senior Andrew LaRosa singled up the middle. Senior Brian Markoski grounded into a fielder’s choice advancing Evans to third base. Markoski stole second and the throw from the catcher got away, allowing Evans to score to make it 1-0.

Senior Alec Merritt started for the Mustangs and cruised through the first three innings of the game and received more run support in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Evans doubled to right field to get the inning started. Markoski walked with one out and then Senior Dylan Nolan singled to load the bases. The Mustangs made it 2-0 on a fielder’s choice from Senior Dave Clark. Markoski scored on an error from the pitcher who tried to pick off Clark at first base to make it 3-0.

Liberty gained two runs back in the top of the 4th inning to make it 3-2. David Melfi reached base on an error and scored on a double from Billy Hart. Daniel Sofield singled to right field to drive in Hart.

Memorial added another run in the bottom of the 4th inning when Senior Teddy Gonzalez doubled to right field with one out and scored on a single from Senior Justin Bates.

Merritt wasn’t able to keep the lead as Liberty put up three runs to take the lead 5-4 and knocking Merritt out of the game.

The score remained the same going into the bottom of the 7th inning as Jackson looked to close it out. LaRosa and Markoski both drew walks with one out and Dylan Nolan hit a sac fly to tie it and sent the game into extra innings for the Mustangs.

Things didn’t go the Mustangs way in the top of the 8th inning, as Jackson Liberty scored four runs to make it 9-5. The Mustangs gave Jackson to many chances by making a couple of errors to keep the inning going for Jackson.

Jackson closed it out in the bottom of the 8th inning to advance in the Shore Conference Tournament.

The Mustangs made eight errors as a team in the ball game, which led to many scoring chances for Jackson Liberty. Liberty was able to capitalize on the mistakes made by the Mustangs.

Evans, Bates, and Clark each had two hits in the ball game, but it wasn’t enough for the Mustangs to advance.
