Brick Memorial Falls Short to Toms River South
The Mustangs couldn't get their offense going, as they only had three hits.

The Mustangs played a very tight game against Toms River South, but they were unable to pull off the victory, as they fell 3-2.

Toms River took an early lead in the top of the 1st inning. Senior Trevor Wagner led off with a walk and was bunted over to second base by Junior Matthew Shiffer. Junior Ben Montenegro beat out an infield single, but Memorial’s Senior Andrew LaRosa threw it away, allowing Wagner to score easily.
Junior Justin Fall started for Toms River and sat the Mustangs down in order in the bottom of 1st inning, striking out the first two batters of the game.

The score moved to 2-0 in the top of the 2nd inning when Toms River’s Sophomore TJ Scuderi doubled with one out. Scuderi scored on a single by Senior Michael Conover.
The Mustangs scored their first run of the game in the top of the 4th inning. Senior Brian Markoski walked to start the inning and moved to second on a strike out in the dirt for the first out. Markoski got a great jump and stole third base with ease. Senior Dave Clark singled up the middle to make it a 2-1 game.
South took a two run lead in the top of the 6th inning as Senior Tyler Wisnewski doubled to lead off the inning. He later scored on a single by Senior Connor Feeney and knocking Senior Alec Merritt out of the game for the Mustangs.
Merritt went 5 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on eight hits, and striking out two batters. Merritt pitched well enough to get the win, but the Mustangs weren’t able to do much against Fall.
Fall went 5 innings, allowing only one hit and one run, while striking out eight batters. Wagner took over in relief in the bottom of the 6th inning. Going into the last inning, Clark had the only two hits for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs did all they could to tie the game as they got one back in the last inning, but weren’t able to tie it. Senior Tim Santiago got hit by a pitch to start off the inning. He advanced to second base on a ground out and scored on a single from LaRosa with one out. LaRosa was pinch run for and the runner was thrown out trying to steal second base. Wagner finished the game with a strike out.
The Mustangs record falls to 12-8 with the loss and they will be back on the field Monday to play Toms River North at home. Game is scheduled to start at 3:45 P.M.
