For the third time this season, the Brick Memorial Mustangs beat Southern Regional, behind brilliant pitching, with a final score of 5-1.
Senior DJ Wilson over powered the Southern hitters, as he threw a complete game, only giving up one run, on three hits, and striking out six. The Southern hitters didn’t seem to be able to catch up to Wilson’s fastball, as he dominated from start to finish.
Southern Regional was able to take the lead in the top of the 2nd inning, scoring their only run on a sac fly by Vaughn Walker.
The Mustangs only had five hits as a team, but that’s all they needed, as they scored four runs in the 2nd inning to make it a 4-1 game. Senior Teddy Gonzalez led off the inning with a walk and with one out, Senior Mike Kraft reached base on an infield single. Senior Justin Bates walked to load the bases.
After a strikeout to make it two outs, Senior Dylan Evans came just short of hitting a grand slam, by smacking a double off the center field wall and clearing the bases. Evans then scored after he stole third base and Southern’s catcher threw the ball away, allowing Evans to score easily.
The Mustangs made it 5-1 on an RBI single by Senior Dylan Nolan, who came into the game as a pinch hitter.
Senior James Donlon went 1 for 3, with a double and Senior Dave Clarke picked up a hit with a single to right field.
With the win, the Mustangs record improves to 11-6 and they will play tomorrow against Brick Township at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, home of the Philadelphia Phillies farm system team, the BlueClaws. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 P.M.
