Brick Memorial Wrestlers Advance to Group IV Final
Mustangs down Southern Regional, 34-22 in semifinals
Brick Memorial's Matt Moore caught Zeb Collins in a cradle and put him to his back late in the second period, pinning the Southern Regional senior to lift Brick Memorial to a 34-22 victory in the NJSIAA Group IV team wrestling semifinals at the Pine Belt Arena on Saturday morning.
Brick Memorial (20-3), the Central Jersey Group IV champion, will take on Phillipsburg, the North Jersey Section 2 Group IV champions at 3:30 p.m. today.
The Mustangs beat Southern, the No. 4 team in the state according to the Star-Ledger, on the strength of pins by Evan Berti and Tyler Richardson, in addition to the pin by Moore at 220.

Berti was trailing Southern's Chris Serpico 2-0 going into the third period at 152 pounds when he got a takedown and forced Serpico onto his back and pinned him, getting the fall at 4:37. That gave Brick Memorial a 19-7 lead halfway through the match.
Two bouts later, at 170 pounds, Tyler Richardson came out aggressively and pinned Nick Hem in less than a minute to give the Mustangs a 25-10 lead.

Anthony Miller's victory in double overtime against Steve Hodgson at 195 set the stage for Moore's clinching pin. Miller and Hodgson dueled through the first two periods, with the only score coming when Hodgson earned a point when Miller released him to the neutral position. Miller tied the bout at 1 on an escape early in the third period to send it to overtime.
