A Local Mom Put The Brakes On Her Teen Daughter's Cell Phone! This Mom Tried Everything To Corral Her Teen But Nothing Was Working.
A mom had been trying everything to get her daughter on
the right track with school and especially the type of friends that she
was associating with. She tried many things to right her daughter's
wrongs. Keeping in touch with the school guidance counselor, ensuring her
daughter wasn't out during the week and monitoring her whereabouts
through her cell phone use, all to no avail. Then one day she gets a
phone call from the school telling her her daughter now has in school
suspension. All due to behaviors and acting out as a result of conflicts
that arose from social media. Social media, spending way too much time
on her phone and all the various apps not to mention hours of talking to
her friends and bullying, were not contributing to the well-being of her mental
stability and socialization. Mom finally decided the end-all and be-all
was to get rid of the iPhone. She went to her cell carriers store to get
her daughter a flip phone. A basic phone with no social media
capability whatsoever. Upon getting to the store she finds out they're
hard to come by because so many parents now are getting them for their
wayward teens. Shockingly she had to make several stops before she could
actually find one at a store.
Clearly her daughter was not a happy person upon realizing that this was her new
communication device. And basically that is all it is needed for. Is
giving the world to a child in the form of a device a means to an end?
Or is it an end to a means? This mom realized that she needed to dial
back how much communication, how much exposure and just how much of a
world was opened up unnecessarily to a child.
