Brick MUA Flushing Water System Starting Next Week
The MUA said it will be using a different chlorine temporarily during the flushing process, which is expected to last into November.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority will be flushing its distribution system starting next week, and during the flushing it will be using chlorine temporarily for disinfection, the authority announced Tuesday.
Flushing is scheduled to begin on or about Tuesday, Oct. 9, and continue through November.
"Distribution system flushing is a normal water system maintenance exercise and will help in our effort to continue to provide the best quality water to our customers," the announcement said.

During the flushing, the MUA will be using "free" chlorine for disinfection instead of the usual chloramine (combined) residuals.
Chlorine is commonly used in public water supplies as a disinfectant, but the type of chlorine that will be used may cause a stronger odor and taste of chlorine in water from the tap, the MUA said.

The flushing also may cause some low water pressure and some discoloration of water, both of which are normal, the MUA said.
"During flushing Brick Utilities employees will be working along roadways. If you are driving in areas where flushing is taking place, please drive cautiously for the safety of yourself and other employees," the announcement said.
Questions can be directed to the MUA at 732-458-7000, ext, 4226.
