Brick Offers Havens Farm Fields To Dance, Exercise Businesses

The outdoor space is being offered to help businesses, which Mayor John Ducey said are being crippled by the slow coronavirus reopening.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township has opened the historic Havens Farm property to township dance studios, exercise businesses and other similar businesses for outdoor lessons, part of the township's ongoing efforts to help small businesses that have been shut down during the coronavirus pandemic.

"We asked our businesses how we could help them open quicker, or open with more capacity," Brick Township Mayor John G. Ducey said in explaining the program. Some business owners asked about the possibility of holding classes at the township's parks.

After a discussion by the Township Council's recreation committee, the council voted to move forward with the program.

Businesses that want to hold classes at the Havens Farm property, off Herbertsville Road, should fill out an application to use one of four fields at the property.

The pace of reopening by the state in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic "is crippling businesses," Ducey said. But the less restrictive conditions outdoors created an opportunity to help.

Ducey said the fields are available in a process similar to those for designating park space for sports teams. Businesses wishing to use the space must have an insurance certificates and must adhere to social distancing guidelines. More information and applications are available through the township's Recreation Department; call 732-262-1044.

"The governor is going way too slow for me, and way too slow for our business owners," Ducey said. "This allows some of our businesses to open."
