Brick Officials Issue Blizzard Preparation Reminders

Breaking: Coastal flood warning in effect; township delays garbage, recycling collections; some programs canceled. Snow Corps help needed.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township officials are issuing reminders to residents as they prepare for the oncoming winter storm.

The National Weather Service's Mount Holly office has issued a blizzard warning for Ocean County (along with Monmouth, Middlesex and several others) beginning at 8 p.m. Monday that is expected to remain in place through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The blizzard warning means there will be falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibility that will lead to whiteout conditions, "making travel extremely dangerous," the National Weather Service warning said.

In addition, a coastal flood warning is in place, the National Weather Service said. The potential for minor to moderate coastal flooding exists from 7 a.m. through 3 p.m. Tuesday, the weather service forecasters said. Residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas are urged to take all necessary precautions including moving vehicles to higher ground.

Brick Township police issued a reminder in capital letters via Nixle alert: "PLEASE REMOVE ALL CARS AND OBJECTS FROM STREETS" to assist with snow removal, the alert said.

In a message posted on the township's Facebook page, officials said the forecast is calling for up to 14 inches of snow for Brick Township, with winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of up to 50mph are expected.

The township said public works crews are treating the township's streets with a salt brine. Plowing of streets the township is responsible for usually begins when there is an accumulation of 4 inches, officials have said. A number of roads in the township are state- and county-owned roads and those roads are plowed separately from township efforts.
