Brick Officials: Schools Open Monday; Afterschool Activities Canceled

Brick Township students who were hoping for a snow day Monday might be disappointed to learn they will be in school.

District officials posted a notice on the schools’ website Sunday evening, saying school will be in session Monday, but afternoon activities have been canceled due to the impending blizzard.

The National Weather Service upgraded its forecast for Brick and Ocean County to a blizzard warning, with predictions of snow beginning early Monday and becoming heavy in the early afternoon, with snowfall totals of 18 to 28 inches possible.

The district’s notice reads as follows:

“Attention Parents and Staff:

School will be open on Monday, January 26th.

Based on weather forecasts, it appears there will be significant snowfall, with blizzard like conditions late Monday, continuing into Tuesday. At this time, we plan on opening school tomorrow, Monday, January 26th, unless weather conditions deteriorate overnight.

If weather conditions deteriorate on Monday, there is a strong possibility for the need of an early dismissal. PLEASE MAKE EMERGENCY PLANS for your child to return home, in the event there is an early dismissal. You will receive notification thru Honeywell on Monday, if we need an early dismissal.

At this point, school will more than likely be closed on Tuesday. You will receive a Honeywell alert advising you with further information on Monday afternoon. Please ensure you have all your emergency contacts updated in Honeywell. This notice, and all future notices will also be posted on the district website.

All afterschool programs, activities and meetings have been cancelled for Monday and Tuesday.

Please be safe.”

If schools are dismissed early Monday, here is the district’s standard early dismissal schedule:

• Herbertsville Elementary School 12:50 p.m.
• Lanes Mill Elementary School 12:50 p.m.
• Midstreams Elementary School 1:30 p.m.
• Osbornville Elementary School 1:30 p.m.
• Veterans Memorial Elementary School 1:30 p.m.
• Lake Riviera Middle School 12:10 p.m.
• Veterans Memorial Middle School 12:10 p.m.
• Brick Memorial High School 11:30 a.m.
  Extend-a-Day Program No School
• Brick Township High School 11:30 a.m.
  West Wing 12:30 p.m.

• Warren H. Wolf Elementary School 12:50 p.m.
  PSD Extended Day (Brown, Flannery, Wittmann) 12:50 p.m.
  Pre-K – 3 Hour AM (Giampietro, Scott, Shropshire) 11:20 a.m.
  Pre-K – 2 Hour AM (Murray, Nikiperowicz, Tischio) 10:20 a.m.
