Brick Police Add Boat To Department's Patrol Efforts

The boat was acquired from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook and outfitted with drug forfeiture funds.

BRICK, NJ — If you're hitting the waterways this Memorial Day weekend, you will have company: the Brick Township Police Department will be out there, too.

The township has launched a boats that will be used from now through at least Labor Day, and beyond as needed, according to a news release from the police department.

It is a 25-foot defender class Safe Boat powered by twin 225-horsepower Honda engines, police said. The boat was acquired from the U.S. Coast Guard Sandy Hook Station and was outfitted by utilizing drug forfeiture funds, police said.

Patrolman Daniel Fogarty, a reservist in the U.S. Coast Guard, headed the project, police said.

The boat and its crew will conduct patrols on the bay, river and lagoons strictly enforcing boating regulations and citing those who are operating their vessels carelessly.

At Tuesday's Township Council meeting, Councilman Paul Mummolo said F Cove is open to boaters again this summer and he urged boaters to control their trash and respect boating rules and those who live in the area. The cove, named because of it is in the shape of an F, has been the subject of controversy in recent summers because of conflicts over littering at the cove, noise issues and more.
