BRICK, NJ — Brick Township police investigated a report Wednesday that a teenager was attacked while riding his bicycle in the afternoon on the trails in the wooded area between Jackson Avenue and the PAL building on Drum Point Road.

The 16-year-old boy told police he was riding through the trail when he was attacked unprovoked by what he described as a light-skinned black male, 6 feet tall with a muscular build and a "scruffy unshaven beard," wearing dark pants and a sweatshirt, Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

As the teen neared the man, who was walking in the same direction the teen was riding, the teen said, "Excuse me." At that time the black male knocked the juvenile off his bicycle and proceeded to assault him, Kelly said.

The teen told police he suffered "superficial cuts" to his arms during the altercation, from an "unknown weapon," and broke away by kicking the alleged attacker in the face, Kelly said.

Brick police EMTs responded but the teen refused treatment, Kelly said. Several patrolmen and detectives canvassed the area for the suspect and evidence of the altercation.
