Brick To Receive Nearly $400K State Grant For Road Resurfacing

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township will receive nearly $400,000 from the state in a municipal aid grant for a road resurfacing project, New Jersey officials announced Tuesday.

The grant is part of a $161.25 million package of Municipal Aid grants to 541 cities and towns across the state, officials said. Those grants were chosen from among 625 projects that were submitted for consideration by the state Department of Transportation.

The funding comes from the 2016 Transportation Trust Fund renewal, from the gasoline tax.

"These funds are crucial to municipalities for the completion of projects that improve quality of life and safety for New Jersey residents," Gov. Phil Murphy said.

Brick has been awarded $397,504 for road resurfacing in the Laurelhurst neighborhood.

Under the Municipal Aid grant program, each county is apportioned a share of the total funding based on population and the number of local centerline miles. Municipalities compete for portions of their county’s share. NJDOT provides 75 percent of the grant amount when a town awards a contract and the remaining 25 percent upon completion of the project. There are seven project categories within the Municipal Aid grant program eligible for funding: Roadway Preservation, Roadway Safety, Quality of Life, Mobility, Bikeway, Pedestrian Safety, and Bridge Preservation.
