Brick Township Council candidate and Board of Education member Frank Pannucci Jr. has been hired as the acting administrator in Point Pleasant, according to a report in the Ocean Star.

Pannucci replaces David Maffei, who was removed from the administrator’s position at the March 17 Borough Council meeting, according to the report.

Maffei had served in the dual role of borough adminstrator and clerk for at least 10 years.

Pannucci, who has a master’s degree in public administration from Seton Hall University, had been the director of customer accounts with the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority until his position was eliminated in May 2014. His removal was labeled as a political maneuver, as Pannucci, who had served as head of the township’s Republican Club, was replaced at the MUA by Gary Vaccaro, a Democrat from Lacey.

The Ocean Star report said Pannucci has been hired for a 60-day period, with a prorated salary of $69,500.

Point Pleasant Mayor Robert Sabosik, who was elected over long-serving Democrat William Schroeder, told the Ocean Star that Maffei was removed as administrator by mutual agreement. Maffei did not comment.
