Brick School Board Set To Name Acting Superintendent
The board has a special meeting set for Tuesday evening to make the appointment.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Board of Education is set to appoint its human resources director as acting superintendent at a special board meeting on Tuesday.
Sean Cranston, who has served as the human resources director for the Brick Township School District since January 2017, is on the agenda to be approved as acting superintendent beginning Aug. 1.
Cranston will take over for Gerard Dalton, who announced his resignation as superintendent in June after a year in the position. Dalton, who was hired from the West Windsor school district, is returning to his former district to become a principal.

Dalton, who formally resigned June 26, had a 90-day clause in his contract that meant he could not leave the position for 90 days unless Brick found a replacement for him and agreed to let him go sooner.
The decision to name Cranston as acting superintendent allows Dalton to leave sooner.

Cranston, who was hired in 2015 as the district's mathematics supervisor, has a provisional school administrator certificate, according to Stephanie Wohlrab, president of the school board. A mentoring program that is required for someone to receive a school administrator certification will be completed next spring.
The appointment of Cranston, who will receive $184.23 per day in addition to his $123,936 salary as human resources director, was reviewed by the Ocean County Executive Superintendent of Schools Kevin W. Ahearn, who approved Cranston's his qualification and contract, Wohlrab said.
Cranston came to Brick following 11-1/2 years as a math teacher and coach at Toms River Intermediate East.
