Brick Schools Closed Jan. 7 For Snow Day

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township School District will be closed Friday because of the second storm in a week that was depositing snow across the area.

The district updated its decision early Friday. Snow began falling about 1 a.m. and by 5 a.m. many roads were covered with a layer of white.

Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency that began at 10 p.m. Thursday, as the storm is anticipated to start bringing snow to the area after 1 a.m. Read more: NJ Declares State Of Emergency; Up To 6 Inches Of Snow Projected

The National Weather Service issued a winter-storm warning for Ocean County and seven others: Monmouth, Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, Cumberland and Atlantic.

The agency predicts 3-6 inches of snowfall in this region from 10 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday. Snowfall in the region could exceed 1 inch per hour late in the night, with snowfall expected to wind down west to east by sunrise Friday, which is slated for 7:21 a.m.

The delayed opening comes on the heels of Monday's storm that at one point was predicted to bring up to 6 inches to Brick and prompted district officials to declare weather closing. It left the township with less than 2 inches of snow, according to the weather service.
