Brick Schools Create Free Program For Special Ed Parents

The monthly free programs aim to help parents of special education students with various aspects of their education.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township School District has created a program for parents of students with special needs that aims to bring parents together and answer questions while helping them navigate the special education process.

The Brick Township School District Special Education Parent Academy is a free, year-round parent engagement initiative of the district's special education department. It was designed and initiated by Kristen Hanson, the district's special education director, to partner and support district parents of special needs children.

There will be free seminars offered monthly, though the program will kick off with two in November, for district parents that aim to both provide information and be "supportive to our district parents," a news release from the district said, "but most important, unite families."
