Brick Set To Honor Good Acts With 2nd Hero Awards

The program Thursday night will honor Police Chief Nils R. Bergquist, among the awardees.

Retiring Brick Township Police Chief Nils R. Bergquist will be one of the featured award recipients when Brick Township holds its second Brick Hero Awards next month.

The Brick Hero Awards, begun last year as a way to highlight the good works -- big and small -- of people around the township and within the schools, are set for Thursday, Dec. 3, at Brick Township High School.

Members of the Mayor’s Teen Advisory Committee (otherwise known as the Society of Influencers and Game Changers) will be working alongside ENSPiRiTED PROJECTS, Kevin Mosely, the Brick schools’ Anti-Bullying Coordinator, and David Seegert of Brick Township High School’s School-Based Services to host the event.

A video message from Mayor John Ducey and a special guest appearance by Interim Superintendent Dr. Richard Caldes will be featured, with other local figures, to present awards to local town heroes. Heroes being honored include town residents and business owners, students going above and beyond, and teachers or administrators who are making a difference. An honoree from last year and a first-year Princeton University student, Brick Memorial alumnus R.J. Hernandez, will be hosting the awards show this year.

The show also includes local youth performances in addition to the awards as well as the launch and fashion show for Brick United, a clothing line to promote positivity between both sides of town as developed by Brick Teens.
