Brick Set To Mark 20th Anniversary Of 9/11 Terror Attacks
The township will hold its annual ceremony to honor the memories of those who were killed in the terrorist attacks.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township will honor the memories of the victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks on Saturday at Windward Beach Park, as the nation marks the 20th anniversary of the attacks.
The ceremony and candlelight vigil will begin at 6 p.m. at the Angel in Anguish monument.
The candlelight ceremony includes the reading of the names of those who died in the attacks.

Eight names are inscribed on the monument: John Badagliacca; Brett T. Bailey; Robert P. Devitt Jr.; Michael D. Diehl; Jon A. Perconti; Jim Sands Jr.; Thomas Sgroi, and Christopher M. Traina.
Two additional names have been read since 2017: Ruben Correa, a firefighter from Ladder 74 who lived in Staten Island but whose family now lives in Brick, and Martha Stevens, who had been a summer resident of the township for many years.

There were 2,996 people killed in the 9/11 attacks, including 19 people from Ocean County.
At the World Trade Center, 2,763 died, including 343 firefighters and paramedics, 23 New York City police officers and 37 Port Authority police officers, according to History.com. At the Pentagon, 189 people were killed, including 64 on American Airlines Flight 77, the airliner that struck the building. On United Flight 93, 44 people died when the plane crashed in Pennsylvania before it could reach its intended target.
