Brick Set To Pave Streets In Birchwood Park

Bids are being sought for the resurfacing of the roads, which have been battered by harsh winters and nearby construction projects.

The last time significant work was done on the roads of Birchwood Park in Brick, a controversy erupted over the plan to install a traffic calming circle.

This time around, the planned improvements are much more simple: repaving the development’s streets.

The Township Council approved a resolution last week to authorize the receipt of bids for the project, which Mayor John G. Ducey said would address the beating the roads have taken. due in part to the Garden State Parkway construction as well as the difficult winters in recent years, with freezing and thawing that has caused potholes.

Ducey read off the list of streets that will be repaved during the project, which appeared to include most if not all of the streets in development.

The last significant roadwork in Birchwood occurred in 2006, when the township built a traffic calming circle to deter speeding, particularly on Sprucewood Drive.

That project was met with loud complaints from residents who felt the circle was not needed.

Officials hope the repaving will be completed by early summer.

Ducey also said the development’s park will be redone this year, joining three other township parks that are getting upgrades and renovations.
