Brick Street Crimes Unit Arrests 6, 3 On Drug Charges

An investigation into drug distribution turned up heroin and led to three arrests by the Street Crimes Unit, Brick police said.

BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Police Department arrested six people in the last two weeks, three on drug charges, police said Monday.

Joseph Reavis, 26, of Manchester, was arrested Aug. 16 at a home on Cottonwood Drive as the result of a drug distribution investigation, Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

An investigation at the house at about 3 p.m. uncovered 170 wax folds of heroin packaged for resale and an undisclosed amount of cash in Reavis's vehicle, Kelly said. Reavis was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, three counts of possession of a CDS, possession of a CDS with the intent to distribute, and possession of paraphernalia.

Reavis was taken to the Ocean County Jail, Kelly said. K-9 Officer Scott Smith and his partner K9 Echo assisted in the arrest.

Three days later, on Aug. 19, Street Crimes Unit officers arrested Ryan Bannon, 39, of Brick, and Katherine Smith, 33, of Brick, as part of the Cottonwood Drive investigation. Bannon was charged with two counts of distribution of a CDS, four counts of possession of a CDS, possession of a CDS and possession of Paraphernalia. Smith was charged with two counts of distribution of a CDS, two counts of conspiracy to commit possession of a CDS, two counts of possession of a CDS, two counts of possession of prescription legend drugs, possession of paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic syringes, Kelly said.

Both Bannon and Smith were taken to the Ocean County Jail.

On Aug. 20 at 10:18 p.m., Street Crimes Unit detectives learned that Kevin Kries, 22, of Brick, who had an arrest warrant out, was at the Silverton Road home of his mother, Christina Torres, 49. With the assistance of Ocean County Sheriff’s Officers, SCU detectives attempted to serve the arrest warrant, but Kries fled out the back door. Kries was quickly apprehended and placed under arrest, Kelly said.

In addition to the outstanding warrant, Kries was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction, and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail. Torres also was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension and obstruction and she was released on a summons.

On Aug. 25 at 3:15 p.m. an SCU detective saw a man identified as James Belcher, 74, of Neptune, masturbating in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Pleasure Zone on Chambers Bridge Road. Belcher was issued a summons charging him with lewdness and he was released on scene.
