Brick Student Lauded On Military Academy Appointment

A Brick Township student who has earned appointment to a United States service academy was among a group of students honored at a reception hosted by Rep. Tom MacArthur over the weekend.

Zachary Crosio was among 13 students at the reception with their families, according to MacArthur's office.

Crosio, a senior at Donovan Catholic who lives in Brick, has been appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

Members of Congress can nominate students for appointment to four of the nation's five military academies; MacArthur nominated students for each vacant academy slot allotted to the district. Factors such as academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, character and motivation are taken into consideration during the nomination process.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to represent such bright and determined young men and women who have such a passion for serving our country,” MacArthur said. “I know these 13 students will represent our state with great honor and distinction, and I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
