Brick Suspends Permit Fees For Flood Victims
More than 170 homes were damaged during the storm, according to the Brick Township Building Department.

BRICK, NJ -- The Brick Township Council approved an ordinance Tuesday night that will suspend municipal permit fees for residents affected by the flash flooding earlier this month.
Nearly 8 inches of rain fell in 2-1/2 hours on Monday, Aug. 13, and as a result, more than 170 homes were damaged by the flash flooding that occurred in its wake, according to the Brick Township Building Department.
One of the most hard-hit areas was Greenbriar 1, where more than 100 homes were evacuated.

"The residents whose homes were damaged in the storm face a long road back," Mayor John Ducey said in a news release prior to the council meeting. "Many of those residents are senior citizens on fixed incomes. We want to help them to the best of our ability and one way we can is by waiving fees for the rebuilding of their homes."
The council will vote on a resolution to authorize the waiving of fees required by the Township Code and Uniform Construction Code for any home that sustained flood damage caused by the Aug. 13 rainstorm. The fees would be waived through Nov. 1.

The waiver would apply only to permits issued to repair damage sustained in the storm. Fees for permits for improvements unrelated to the storm will still be applied.
The waiver also applies only to township fees, and applicants will still be responsible for any nominal state fees. The township has no authorization to wave any required state fees.
Under the resolution, anyone who already has paid for a permit related to repairs from the Aug. 13 storm will see those fees refunded.
