Brick Teen Dies Following Lagoon Accident: Police
The school district will have grief counselors available for students and staff on Monday.

BRICK, NJ — A teenage boy who was pulled from a lagoon Saturday after being under water for several minutes has died, Brick Township police said Sunday evening.
The 15-year-old boy, who has not been identified, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly said.
The Brick Township School District, via a robocall to parents, said the boy was a sophomore at Brick Township High School. The message said counselors will be available at the high school and at Lake Riviera Middle School to provide assistance to any students needing help.

Police, EMTs and paramedics were called to a home on Toronto Drive at 6 p.m. Saturday and found people at the scene performing CPR on the boy, who was unconscious and unresponsive. The home is in the Seawood Harbor neighborhood.
The boy had been swimming in the lagoon with several friends. As the group was swimming and jumping into the water, the boy apparently went under and did not resurface, Kelly said. After about five minutes someone realized the boy was not with the group and several people began searching for him.

Kelly said the homeowner found the boy toward the bottom after several dives into the lagoon and pulled him out into a nearby boat, where they attempted to revive him.
He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune via ambulance, Kelly said. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the response.
