Brick Tops Snowfall Totals; Share Your Dig-Out Photos

As Brick digs out from the blizzard, township police are reminding motorists to be cautious as driving remains slippery.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Is No. 1 ... in the snow accumulation from the blizzard, according to the National Weather Service.

Actually, the township shared the honor for most snowfall with Berkeley Township, which also had a report of 18 inches, according to the weather service's Mount Holly office.

As the cleanup continues, Brick Township police are urging motorists to exercise caution while driving.

"On snow and ice, go slow no matter what kind of vehicle you are driving," police said in a post on Facebook Friday. "Even if you have an SUV with four-wheel drive you may not be able to stop any faster or maintain control any better once you lose traction."

Brick Sgt. Neal Pedersen said police fortunately had only one crash to respond to Thursday in the midst of the blizzard, but there were 84 motorists who required assistance after getting stuck in some fashion, he said.

Brick police had several other reminders for motorists:

  • Remove snow from your vehicle. Make sure you can see and be seen.
  • Do not use cruise control while driving on ice and snow.
  • Brake early, slowly and correctly; don't jam on your brakes at the last second.
  • Leave extra room between you and the vehicle in front of you; it takes more time and space to stop on ice and snow.
  • Roads that seem dry may actually be slippery and dangerous. Take it slow when approaching intersections, off-ramps, bridges and shady areas; all are locations for black ice.
  • Leave plenty of time to reach your destination safely. It's not worth putting yourself or others in danger just to be on time.
