Brick Township High School Summer Fishing Event (NJ HOFNOD)

The Brick Township High School Fishing Club (BTHSFC) completed a second year of classroom instruction for the New Jersey “Hooked on Fishing not on Drugs (NJ HOFNOD) program featuring various fishing workshops. Students wanted to increase their fishing experience throughout the summer months and fishing club faculty advisors decided to make it happen. Beginning in July and running through August 31, Brick Township High School students are encouraged to get out and fish for a prize. First step is to visit one of the participating local tackle shops (Alex’s Bait and Tackle in Point Pleasant Beach; Crystal Marine or Castaways Bait and Tackle in Point Pleasant; Charlie’s Bait & Tackle, Jersey Hooker Outfitters, Jersey Paddler, Pell’s or Jersey Coast Bait and Tackle in Brick; or Brielle Bait and Tackle) to get your entry. Once registered, students will submit a completed Catch and Release/Selective Harvest Weigh-in form to be entered in the drawing bin for a prize. Registration forms will also be included in the drawing so don’t get discouraged if you did not land a fish, you can still win a prize for trying. Drawing for rod and reel/prizes will be held at Brick Township High School, 346 Chambers Bridge Rd. on September 10, 2015 in the Auditorium. Only one prize will be awarded per student. All winners and participants will have a photograph opportunity with the Brick Township High School Fishing Club and Home Town Hero. BTHS Fishing Club Faculty Advisor’s, JCAA Youth Education Committee and volunteers from local fishing clubs will collect forms bi-weekly from participating tackle dealers. With the assistance from local merchants and sponsors, the summer fishing event is designed to introduce youngsters to fishing and boating as an alternative to gangs, bullying, drugs, alcohol, and violence. Organizers ultimately would like to expand the program to other New Jersey high schools and host an intra-scholastic NJ HOFNOD fishing competition next year.
