Brick Wins First Outright Class A South Football Championship Since 2003
Dragons top Toms River South 34-14, await information on state playoff opponent

The Brick Township High School Dragons are Shore Conference Class A South football champions.
Quarterback Carmen Sclafani rushed for two touchdowns and hit Matt Schliefer for another, Ray Fattaruso ran for a touchdown and Casey Stackable kicked a pair of field goals as Brick defeated longtime rival Toms River South 34-14 in Brick Friday night, according to Twitter reports from the game.
The victory allowed Brick to clinch its first outright division title since 2003. The Dragons shared the Class A South title in 2008, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Fattaruso’s status for the game was up in the air after the Toms River North game last week, when officials ejected him, believing he had received a second personal foul for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Brick coaching staff disputed that, saying the first personal foul actually belonged to a different Brick player. That was cleared up this week and Fattaruso was cleared to play. The clarification also removed one of the two ejections that loomed over the Brick program after the victory over the Mariners, leaving Brick with one ejection after that game.
Brick secured a spot in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV playoffs and awaits the outcome of Saturday’s games to find out where it will be seeded and who the Dragons will face in the first round of the playoffs next weekend as they try to defend their 2013 state championship. That title was the Dragons’ first in 19 years.
