Brick Woman Earns Postseason Honors For Rutgers Lacrosse
Amanda Carsten was named to all-conference and all-region teams.

A Brick Township resident has received conference honors with the Rutgers women's lacrosse team, the university announced.
Amanda Casten, a sophomore defender, has been named to the 2016 All-Big Ten team and to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team, according to news releases from Rutgers.
Casten, who has been a starter since her freshman year, led the Scarlet Knights with 30 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers, and was fifth in the Big Ten with 1.75 ground balls per game. She notched two ground balls and two draw controls in the 16-6 win over Michigan (April 30); recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers against No. 19/20 UConn (March 5), and had two ground balls and a caused turnover at No. 16 Penn (March 2).

Rutgers (6-12) ended the season in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals against No. 1 Maryland, losing 19-9 to the eventual conference champions. The Scarlet Knights (6-12) won three of their final four games to close the year, including a pair of overtime wins against top-20 Ohio State. The program qualified for a conference tournament semifinal for the second time in three seasons.
Carsten, who was named a Big Ten player to watch in the preseason, is a Red Bank Catholic graduate who earned first-team All-Shore honors her junior and senior years and finished her high school career with 216 goals and 53 assists as the Caseys won the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II title in 2014.

Carsten now is eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American team, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 18. The IWLCA will honor the All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday, June 4 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
