Brick Township High School senior Brian Oehme has signed a national letter of intent to continue his basketball career and education at Drew University in Madison, according to coach Michael Gawronski.

Oehme, a 6-foot-5 power forward/center, averaged 14.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game, Gawronski said, along with 2.1 blocks, and shot 84 percent from the free throw line, and was a positive influence even as the Dragons struggled through a 3-18 season.

“There was never a day when he did not come into the gym with the mission of getting his teammates and himself better,” Gawronski said. “He was really one of those kids that doesn’t come around often. He was respected by the coaching staff, his teammates, but also the other coaches and players as well.”

Gawronski said Oehme chose Drew over Kean University, Moravian College and Centenary College, who all were recruiting him.

“He is an amazing young man and deserves the recognition for this achievement, even though he would not admit to that,” Gawronski said.
