BRICK, NJ — Work to replace the Duck Farm Bridge on Hooper Avenue has begun, bringing changes in traffic patterns and travel delays in the area, Brick Township police said Wednesday.

The project to replace Duck Farm Bridge, which is on Hooper Avenue (often referred to as Old Hooper Avenue) and crosses the Cedar Bridge branch of the Metedeconk River, is anticipated by Ocean County officials to cost $4 million. Ocean County received a $1.7 million state grant in 2021 to offset some of cost.

The bridge is named for a duck farm that once existed on a piece of land at Hooper Avenue and Mantoloking Road. The property is referenced by the Brick Township Historical Society as being home to an unregistered 5,000-gallon still in 1937.

The construction is between Manor Drive and Cedar Bridge Road/Mantoloking Road. The project will take several months to complete, Ocean County officials said.

During the different phases of construction, there will be several changes to the traffic patterns on Hooper Avenue. Expect increased delays and allow for extra travel time when traveling through the area, Brick police said.
