Charles McCabe, Brick High School Teacher

Services are set for Tuesday and Wednesday for the former assistant hockey coach and English teacher.

Services have been set for Tuesday and Wednesday for Charles M. McCabe of Brick, a former teacher at Brick Township High School and longtime township resident, who died Friday at Monmouth Medical Center. He was 72.

McCabe, who was an English teacher at Brick High School for 39 years, also served as an assistant hockey coach for 25 years, according to his obituary on the Colonial Funeral Home website.

He also was a member of the Durand Lodge 179 of Point Pleasant Beach and an avid University of Notre Dame fan. McCabe was born in Binghamton, N.Y., and lived in Wilkes Barre, Pa., before moving to Brick in 1965, according to the obituary.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara (Brelick); his son Ken and his wife Donna of Matawan, daughter Beth Ann Hughes and her husband Barrett of Howell; twin brother Jim McCabe and sister-in-law Pat of Tinton Falls, and his grandchildren, Lyndsey McCabe, Michael McCabe and Jack Hughes.

Viewing hours will be on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Route 88, Brick, NJ 08724. A funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, Brick, followed by Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lakewood.
